Today, of every useful item you can think, are projected and made only those that can be sold by wholesale. This happen because of the big investment that required a big market.
But what about to produce items at home with low cost? The important part of an object would be the idea. If we have an apple per head, and we exchange these, we’ll have an apple per head yet. But if we exchange an idea, in the end we’ll have two ideas for each. Imagine that you can share an object’s project, sure that you can reply it with your printer.
The problem is the printer. Already exist many types of printers, but they are expensive. They are used in industry to make prototypes . The priority is therefore the quality, the cost is a smaller problem. RepRap is a 3D printer with technical features lower that the professional ones, but enough to produce many useful items that everyone can do for a little cost.
RepRap means “Replicating Rapid-prototyper”. The project aims to build a printer that can build another identical printer. In this way it’s enough to have the raw material to realize a printer for another person, and permit to spread this technology.
